Millie's Mummy & Chief Executive - Joanne Thompson
Hi,
I’m Millie’s Mummy and the Chief Exec. of Millie’s Trust. After volunteering for a year at Millie’s Trust, I became the first full time member of our team, we’ve seen some tough times but I am so proud to say that 12 years later, we are still going strong.
Some of my favourite things about Millie’s Trust;
- The Fundraisers that I get to take part in.
I am very priviliged to be able to take part in lots of different fundraisers for Millie’s Trust, some of which I have absolutely loved and some that I can quite glady say, never again! I adored visiting Peru and completing the Inca Trail, some incredible memories there and some very tearful times as I climbed the tough terrain thinking of my beautiful daughter and remembered why I was doing this particular tough challenge.
I adore walking with other fundraisers, I particulary loved the Jurassic Coast Walk that our team completed in Dorset, we saw some absolutely stunning views, we got very lucky with the weather until it absolutely poured down in the last 15 minutes as we reached our end point Durdle Door.
I’ve completed a 10 day sponsored silence, that has got to be one of the most challenging ones yet – mentally it was horrific. By around day 7, I was really struggling and it was so emotionally tough – especially when I have two little boys at home who I had to communicate via a wipeboard too. (Tip: If you’re going to do a sponsoed silence, keep it to a max 24 hours).
The 10 day fancy dress costumes, was so fun. I’m not a fancy dress person at all but by about day 3, I didn’t care anymore as I got to see the children’s excited faces in the school playground as I droppped my son’s off. I became a Teletubby, a bat, a dinosaur, a banana and much more, this was such good fun.
I’ve also done abseling (this is the never again one, absolutely petrified me), Yorkshire 3 Peaks, Mile a Day Swim for 30 days and so much more. I’m always up for a challenge. Feel free to suggest something to me :-)

2. Our Team
Our team at Millie’s Trust are amazing, we have our office team who you will more than likely speak to if you call us and then we have our fabulous trainers who understand why what we do at Millie’s Trust is so important. I am so very proud of every single team member and how they represent Millie’s Trust and they mean the world to me.
Alongside being the CEO and, I also teach the mental health courses here, this is something that I love doing, alongside teaching children in schools (I love their enthusiasm, questions that they aren’t afraid to ask and their dramatic and often gory answers to my requests for first aid stories)
Outside of Millie’s Trust
Outside of Mille’s Trust, I love spending time with my 2 little boys and Fiance, I am a real homebird and prefer to be there than going out … but… I do love to travel and explore new places, whether that be in the UK or a trip on a plane somewhere. I have a busy 12 months coming up with a new baby on the way and a wedding to plan but it’s all exciting times. I am also a qualified counsellor, which ties in well the mental health training that I am so proud to host within Millie’s Trust.
Bye for now!
